Devotion – Singing your praises
You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent (Psalm 30:11, 12).
Psalm 30 provides a beautiful picture of the God who spared the author of the psalm from falling into a pit and healed and restored them. It is an honest picture of the ups and downs of life and a relationship that withstands both the positives and negatives. And the author recognises God’s actions in bringing them out of the difficulties of life.
In our society, where the ‘self-made person’ is revered and individualism is prized, what a refreshing picture of life in relationship with our loving creator. May you be blessed with the vision to recognise God’s hand in your circumstances and give praise and thanks to the One whose anger lasts only a moment but whose favour lasts a lifetime.
Dear Lord, when things are good, help me praise and acknowledge you. When things are bad, help me be honest and turn to you with confidence that you will be with me. I place myself in your hands. Amen.

NAPLAN 2022
During Weeks 4 and 5, the Year 3 and Year 5 students will be undertaking the NAPLAN tests. Sunshine Christian School students will be completing the NAPLAN tests online. Students in both year levels undertake assessments in numeracy, reading, writing and language conventions (spelling, vocabulary and grammar).
While NAPLAN is an important means for the government to assess the students and is a valuable resource for the teachers, we need to remember that it is only a snapshot of what the students know and understand in specific tested areas at a specific time. The teachers at our school work diligently throughout the year to support the students, and they know each student’s gifts and abilities far more intimately than the representation of a single test result. The NAPLAN test does not understand each student or the particular needs of each student; nor does it highlight the many diverse, God-given gifts and skills which each of the students possess. Therefore, it should in no way be used to assess the value of our students. We are proud of every student that is a part of our community and we wish them God’s blessings and success in everything they do.
NAPLAN Breakfast
We are pleased to announce that the Student Representative Council is again taking the initiative to provide breakfast for the Year 3 and 5 students on the days they are undertaking NAPLAN tests this year. The dedicated members of the SRC will organize a healthy breakfast for the Year 3 and 5 students from 8.15 – 8.45am on NAPLAN days. This will help ensure the students are at their prime during the test period. They will also provide some healthy snacks as brain food for the students. We thank the SRC for their kindness, thoughtfulness and service to others.
All Year 3 and 5 students are invited to attend the breakfast on Tuesday 10 May, Wednesday 11 May, Friday 13 May and Monday 16 May from 8.15am.
What we are Learning
Prep
In the Prep/1 classroom we are learning to put finger spaces between our words.
You can ask us to show you how to write a sentence with our finger spaces.
Year 1/ 2
In the Year 1/2 classroom we are learning to tell the time to the half and quarter hour on an analogue clock. You can help by asking your child to tell the time when different activities are performed at home. How do these times look on a clock?
Year 3/ 4
In the Year 3/4 classroom we have started learning about Early Explorers. We are learning about the ‘Age of Exploration’ and why people in the 15th Century started exploring other places of the world. Ask us about the 4 continents we have learned about so far.
Year 5/ 6
In the Year 5/6 classroom, we have been learning about persuasive writing techniques and how to use a framework to set out our ideas clearly. Ask us to tell you about what connectives we have been using to link our ideas together.
