Devotion – Grieving your guest
And do not make God’s Holy Spirit sad; for the Spirit is God’s mark of ownership on you, a guarantee that the day will come when God will set you free. Get rid of all bitterness, passion and anger. No more shouting or insults, no more hateful feelings of any sort. Instead, be kind and tender-hearted to one another, and forgive one another, as God has forgiven you through Christ. Ephesians 4: 30 - 32
It’s like inviting someone as a guest in your house and then giving them a hard time. You mess up their room, foul up the bath and shower, let the food in the fridge go stale, damage the air conditioner, let the dirty dishes pile up in the sink, forget to hang out the washing and never buy any decent groceries.
That’s what it is like when we become a Christian and then continue with old habits of selfish thinking and bad behaviour. When we become one of God’s people, we receive God into our life. He comes to live in our mind, our heart, and our body becomes his home. If we continue to harbour grudges, let our negative emotions rage without control and act vindictively and maliciously towards others, we are heaping rubbish all over the Holy Spirit.
It’s better to let our special guest take over the house and allow him to ensure that love, forgiveness and clean living are characteristics of the new way of living.
Holy Spirit, I welcome you as a special guest in my life. Take my heart and make it your home through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Beginning the school week with worship is a wonderful way to start the week and is one of the ways we demonstrate the school’s values. In worship assembly this term the staff and students have been learning more about our school values; so far we have covered love, compassion, service and forgiveness. All of these worship times have been special in different ways: Love was the focus of our opening service; the Prep, Year 3 and new students to the school received bibles after we learnt about compassion in Week 2; the Student Leadership Team was announced and the students where inducted into their positions during our focus on service in Week 3; and in Week 4 the Year 3/4 class presented their thoughts and understanding of forgiveness to the rest of the school.
What we are Learning
Year Prep/ 1
In the Prep/1 classroom we have been looking at word families and rhyming words. We learnt that word families rhyme, but rhyming words don’t always belong in the same word family. You can help us by giving us a word and asking us to find words that rhyme with it.
Year 2/3
In the Year 2/3 classroom, we have been learning about Place Value. We count, and order 2, 3 and 4-digit numbers. We use symbols and words. Ask us to demonstrate Place Value of digits in a number.
Year 3/4
In the Year 3/4 classroom, we have been working on plural nouns. Ask us what a plural noun is! You can quiz us at home by giving us a singular noun and we will tell you the plural.
Year 5/6
In Year 5/6 we have been brainstorming our own areas of interest. Over the coming weeks, we are going to be focusing on what we want to know about these topics and using our research skills to investigate an inquiry question. Ask us what we’ve chosen to investigate.
